Here’s what Full Publication Support looks like at Renard McGillen
PHASE 1 STORY BUILDING
Timeframe: 3-9 months
Together, we’ll brainstorm and refine your story ideas to match your hopes for how the book will fit into your personal and professional life and serve your greater purpose. We’ll help you nail down the plot points and develop character arcs to outline a compelling narrative that hooks readers and keeps them turning the pages. We’ll coach you through writing your first draft and take the book through a developmental edit to make sure we are hitting all the big picture ideas of structure, style, form, pacing, and character development.
PHASE 2 AUDIENCE BUILDING
Timeframe: 3-6 months
In this phase we’ll lead you through brainstorming, scripting, and testing in-person and online conversations to learn how to talk about your book in a way that makes people want to read it. We’ll determine how your unique perspective fits into the ongoing cultural conversation around the themes in your book and help you find a voice that feels authentic and builds your self-identity as a storyteller who can confidently support a growing community. We’ll solicit early readers to build excitement and get feedback on how the book lands with real people. Based on lessons learned through conversations and the impressions of early readers, the book will go through a copy edit with feedback and suggested edits that will provide continuity in your story and fine-tune the language and sentence-level errors, while honing your writing voice and style.
PHASE 3 BOOK BIRTHING
Timeframe: 3-6 months
In this phase we’ll call in our designers to create a book cover that you absolutely love that represents your story and fits the genre of your book. We’ll help you choose an interior design that delights you and take the book through a proofread to clean up any grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, incorrect punctuation, and any awkward spaces within the text. We’ll show you how to set up your own self-publishing imprint to make your book available for distribution through online retailers and bookstores and libraries worldwide. We’ll coach you on personalized book launch strategies according to your preferences and talents, including but not limited to: connecting with readers at in-person events, booking podcast interviews, getting speaking engagements, and getting your book into book clubs.

Start with a Manuscript Evaluation
A manuscript evaluation includes written feedback on character development, story structure, and what is being done well and what needs work in the writing. Included is a 30-minute zoom call to clarify suggestions for the next steps for the project. If you decide to proceed with full publication support, the manuscript evaluation fee will be credited toward those services.
